Junior Tournament of the Year Award
GREENSBORO, NC (November 18, 2019) - Tennis Continues to grow and thrive in North Carolina. Each year USTA North Carolina and North Carolina Tennis Foundation honor deserving individuals, organizations, events and facilities that make great contributions to advancing the sport tennis in North Carolina. On Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Pinehurst Resort, we will recognize thirty-three of those contributors during an awards ceremony at our annual Tennis Weekend celebration. In September of this year, we also celebrated an additional twelve awards at the Community Tennis Development Workshop in Greensboro.
The Durham-Orange Community Tennis Association (DOCTA) has been honored with the Junior Tournament of the Year in Memory of John Allen Farfour Award for its DOCTA Open Jr. Tennis Challenge in Chapel Hill.
DOCTA partners with the Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation and is supported by the amazing Chapel Hill/Carrboro School System facilities staff. The long-time Durham tournament has been hosted in Chapel Hill for the past 3 years to promote and support the growth of tennis. Ages 12 tp 19 compete in singles and doubles play as family and friends support their efforts.
Over 15 years old, the DOCTA Open Jr. Tennis Challenge has seen many youth grow up on the court! DOCTA is pleased and honored to receive this award. Special thanks to USTA North Carolina and the North Carolina Tennis Foundation. DOCTA will receive this honor at NC Tennis Weekend in January 2020. Learn more at www.nctennis.com.

North Carolina teams took three titles and placed one finalist in the 2019 USTA League Adult 55 & Over Southern Sectional Championships.
USTA Southern crowned eight champions in matches that were played Sept. 13-15 at three sites in Asheville, N.C.: Asheville Racquet Club Downtown (headquarters), Asheville Racquet Club South and Aston Park. There were more than 72 men’s and women’s teams with more than 700 players from nine states.
Durham, N.C. was the sole city with two teams in finals, with the Women’s 3.0 team taking the championships. Alabama and Louisiana had a champion and two finalists while Georgia brought home two crowns.

DOCTA TENNIS EVERYONE – DURHAM 150
DURHAM 150 GRANTEE
Durham-Orange Community Tennis Association (DOCTA) Together Tennis – Durham 150 is a special event that celebrates Durham’s 150 birthday by providing diverse and inclusive outreach and engagement to a minimum of 150 youth and adults in Durham who would like to learn and play tennis in the next 150 days. DOCTA’s goal is to provide an event that promotes the diversity and inclusion of tennis for all Durham residents to feel welcomed and to provide an opportunity for families to engage together in tennis while celebrating Durham’s 150 years. DOCTA – Together Tennis – Durham 150 will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 10 am to 1 pm at Southern School of Energy and Sustainability.
This event will showcase grassroots tennis in the Durham community and highlight tennis as a sport for youth engagement that would earn exceptionally skilled youth in tennis a college/university scholarship. Tennis Everyone further promotes the six (6) pillars of character (trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship) throughout all programming activities and the special event.
The Durham-Orange Community Tennis Association has served the Durham community for the past 20 years to promote and encourage tennis. Most of DOCTA’s programs are held at local public parks and public schools. DOCTA currently coordinates the USTA/NC junior team tennis league for the Eno area. The North Carolina Tennis Foundation is beginning a search for a new Director or Development and Programs. We are looking for someone with a passion for and background in tennis with the ability to fund and friend raise for the NC Tennis Foundation. The North Carolina Tennis Foundation was organized in 1961 for the purpose of promoting tennis. The Foundation provides financial support to many worthwhile tennis programs across the state. These programs include the National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) Network, the NC State High School Championships, adaptive tennis, and numerous grants.
Not only does the North Carolina Tennis Foundation support tennis programs but it also maintains the North Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame and works on numerous projects to preserve the history of tennis in North Carolina. The North Carolina Tennis Foundation is a 501C3.

DOCTA Jr. Open 2017
The Durham-Orange Community Tennis Association (DOCTA) hosted its Annual Open Jr. Tennis Challenge on July 28-30, 2017 in partnership with the Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation. In collaboration with the Chapel Hill/Carrboro Schools, East Chapel Hill High School was the main site for the 119 entries for the tournament that was showcased at three high school sites, including the Carrboro and Chapel Hill High School tennis courts.
Great tennis was enjoyed from the tennis fans and families that looked on as North Carolina players, ages 12 to 18 boys and girls shared their talents. After overcoming Friday nights rain and thunderstorms, the DOCTA Open was full of sunshine!

DOCTA Gearing Up for Summer Fun!
The Durham-Orange Community Tennis Association (DOCTA) is gearing up for Summer Fun! Don't miss the excitement! On Saturday, June 24, 2017, the DOCTA Annual Tennis Carnival will be held at Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Tennis Courts, 800 Clayton Road, Durham, NC from 9 am to 12 noon. Please come out and join us! Youth, ages 4 to adults of all ages are invited to be a part of this special event. Click flier here!
DOCTA Tennis Clinics are now available from June-September 2017! Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday tennis programming is available for beginners, intermediate and advanced participants. DOCTA Tennis with Character Program will be held July 8, 15 and August 5,12 for 2017 from 9 am to 11 am.
